About VTS

An independent, real-time tracking of global health and disaster threats.

Why I built this

When a new disease outbreaks on the other side of the world, most of us have no idea until it spreads or until the news covers it in a panic. Even then, the numbers are often buried in paragraphs of text or hidden behind paywalls. By the time we see it, it may be too late to take meaningful action.

This site exists to give anyone, regardless of where they live, a straightforward, up-to-date picture of what is actually happening with active global health threats. No politics, no sensationalism. Just the numbers, sourced from the same agencies that governments rely on.

Data sources for current outbreaks

WHO Disease Outbreak News

Situation reports and emergency declarations.

Africa CDC

African Union's continental disease agency. Monitors DRC Ministry of Health directly and often publishes updated figures 12–24 hours ahead of WHO/ECDC.

ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention)

Rapid risk assessments and outbreak situation reports for Europe. Updates same-day when WHO publishes.

US CDC Ebola Situation Summary

US CDC situation page. Also the only source for US airport entry restriction data.

CDC NoroSTAT

Weekly norovirus outbreak cluster counts from 14 US state health departments. Season total updated monthly.

CDC CaliciNet

Genotype surveillance for norovirus. Identifies the dominant circulating strain each season.

WastewaterSCAN (Stanford / Verily)

Norovirus GII detection in wastewater across 30+ US utilities. Monthly concentration and trend data.

Sources are updated every few hours. (Note: CDC and WHO publish updates every 24–72 hours, so more frequent updates would read identical data.)
